Keen to uphold their reputation as the largest sheetfed printer in New Caledonia, Artypo’s partners Patrick Koch and Pierre Bui recognise the importance of keeping abreast with the latest technology. They regularly attend international exhibitions to see how they can improve their business and have diversified into other aspects of printing including forms, digital, point of sale, stationery, engraving and labels.
To cater for the output from its Heidelberg SM 52 two- and four-colour presses and Speedmaster CD 102-5 colour with coater at its plant in Noumea, Artypo has been using two older Müller Martini saddle stitchers that have proved their worth over the past two decades. However, as Patrick Koch explains, Artypo’s business is based on service so an upgrade was in order. The new Müller Martini Presto E90 with six feeders plus a cover feeder and Perfetto compensating stacker fits the bill perfectly and represents excellent value.

“We need to be as reactive as possible,” said Koch “The set-up time and speed of our older models were far below our requirements. Our market is more A4 with 96 pages plus cover in runs to up to 55,000. Our choice was also influenced by the partnership we have developed with Müller Martini. Both sales and installation services are always very sensitive to our requirements. Müller Martini also has many customers in New Caledonia. Since the installation in July we have halved makeready time and improved output from 4500 to 7500 - 8000 an hour.
“The installation process went extremely well due to pre-planning between Artypo and Muller Martini,” said Greg Clarke, Müller Martini sales manager, New Zealand. “This enabled us to place a higher emphasis on operator training. The operators and staff have picked up the basics of the machine extremely well, assisted by our Swiss factory trained technician who is fluent in French. Further training will improve the skill set of the operators and increase productivity on the machine. We see this as a continuance of our long-term partnership with print finishing and look forward to further business with a very proactive company.” |
