Control from start to finish
When Alex Azzopardi formed Colour Script in 1996 to provide a quality prepress, film and proofing service in the Sydney market, little did he realise that the new century would see the trade house develop into a full service printing business. “With the upsurge in the use of CtP and the downturn in the use of film we had two options: to close or to move into the next phase,” Azzopardi explained. Major capital investment followed, including relocation and the opening of Impress Colour where a Komori Lithrone 28 five-colour press, a Wohlenberg guillotine and an MBO folder were installed.

Azzopardi soon recognised the need to control the process from start to finish. “Servicing the customer with quality is the crucial ingredient for success. The point of difference in our service is our guarantee to have a quote back in four hours, as well as offering complete finishing, diecutting, wiro binding and drilling. This control of our business enables us to measure the response on time and delivery.”
Impress Colour recently upgraded its finishing equipment with a Müller Martini Presto 1550 saddlestitcher, which boasts eight hoppers with cover and six hoppers with tilt-back. “This has reduced our pre-collate by 70%. The machine enables us to be more accurate, faster and a whole lot more reliable,” observes Azzopardi. “It totally eliminates the stitching blockage.”
Impress Colour took nine months to compare products and analyse short, medium and long term requirements before deciding on the Presto 1550. “This is not the first machine purchased from Müller Martini. We cut our teeth on a 221 stitch and trim. We are now considering purchasing a further burst bind machine, another link in the chain of upgrading all our equipment to state-of-the-art,” added Azzopardi.
