A premier at Graph Expo in Chicago: The SigmaTrimmer in a solo version
The SigmaTrimmer in a solo version – three-side trimming with zero make-ready Without changeovers and thus without any interruptions, you can trim an extremely wide range of formats and book thicknesses down to one run at 1000 cycles per hour – this is now possible with the Muller Martini SigmaTrimmer, which can also be put to use as a solo machine. This solution will be presented for the first time at Graph Expo from September 11 - 14 in Chicago.

Muller Martini makes use of the unique digital solutions technology of the SigmaLine as the first fully integrated industrial-grade total solution for digital book production, and with the new offline solution of the SigmaTrimmer three-knife trimmer it gives graphics companies even more flexible application options.

The solo version of the SigmaTrimmer is especially interesting for printers with a mixed job structure and for printers that want to get into the digital printing market with smaller machines.

The final format for each book is read in individually during infeed with a barcode scanner, and all settings are made automatically. Because the knives on the SigmaTrimmer are permanently mounted and the products are moved towards them on a turntable, books in an extremely wide range of formats, sizes and print runs can be trimmed at up to 1000 cycles per hour without interruption (zero make-ready). This solution is particularly interesting for

- printers with a mixed job structure because, due to the time-consuming changeovers of a conventional three-knife trimmer, they lose considerable time during the finishing of their softcover products

- printers that want to enter the digital printing market with smaller machines

- printers that print books using both digital and offset processes

- printers with very small print runs (down to one run) because they frequently trim a wide variety of final formats from just a few standardized raw book formats; therefore on the SigmaTrimmer the maximum foot trimming was additionally expanded from 30 to 75 mm – which in digital printing allows an even larger degree of efficiency and flexibility for their printed products.

Because the knives in the SigmaTrimmer are permanently mounted, books of a very wide range of formats, sizes and print runs can be trimmed without interruption at rates of up to 1000 cycles per hour.

Muller Martini is presenting the innovative solo version of the SigmaTrimmer – and likewise a combination line consisting of the SigmaBinder, SigmaTower and SigmaTrimmer – from September 11 - 14, 2011, at Graph Expo in Chicago at Booth 845. There the SigmaTrimmer has been nominated for the “Must See ’Em Award”.
