Inserting and film wrapping with Onyx/Rubin: Fully Integrated Production
Total solutions speed up print finishing processes. The Onyx/Rubin Inserting and Film Wrapping Line from Muller Martini allows for a fully integrated operation after the saddle stitching or perfect binding processes.

The Onyx/Rubin Inserting and Foil Wrapping Line makes creative ideas reality.

Although space requirements and other factors mean that offline solutions are widely used, the trend in print finishing is undoubtedly towards fully automatic inline production. This is because integrated processes save time and money. When installing a total solution, customers prefer to avoid a production line made up of machines from different manufacturers as far as possible. As a supplier of inline solutions, Muller Martini guarantees production reliability and prompt customer support.

Modular and Flexible
The Onyx/Rubin inserting and foil wrapping line makes creative print product ideas reality. It inserts or attaches advertising supplements, samples or CDs to increase the appeal of high-quality magazines. These are often gifts which find a great deal of favor with customers. So that they reach their destination safely and undamaged, before dispatch they are wrapped in protective foil, which can also carry the address printed by inkjet.

The design of the Onyx/Rubin is modular and therefore very flexible. The layout of the machine depends on the space available on the customer’s premises. The inserting line can be configured for a maximum of 20 feeders, and the main section and the supplements can be in a wide range of formats. Furthermore, using an ergonomically designed central touch screen and local operating elements, the machine operator can set up each component rather quickly. He or she can switch from inline production to decoupled offline production if required at any time.

Especially eye-catching magazines with “Pick&Place”

Eye-catching with “Pick&Place”
With space saving transfer elements, Muller Martini ensures that the inserting process follows on smoothly from the saddle stitching and perfect binding processes. The main section is transported continuously, efficiently and also extremely carefully. This also applies to the process in which a sword opens the main section to allow a rotary feeder to insert supplements at different points. Thanks to the Onyx/Rubin special “Pick&Place” feeder, magazines are made particularly eye-catching. This special feeder can be configured flexibly to attach samples and gimmicks precisely to the carrier product at full operating speed.

Film wrapping high-value print products makes an important contribution to maintaining quality. This was illustrated at drupa ’08 where Muller Martini enjoyed successful sales with the Onyx/Rubin. The single film wrapping machine encloses each product in environmentally friendly film which is then sealed, first lengthways and then widthways. A perforation makes it easier for the end customer to open. So that incomplete or incorrect products do not even get to the point of being addressed or stacked, they are diverted away through a gate. Precision palletizing ensures that the undamaged copies reach the distributor, and finally the recipient, in perfect condition.
