Open House 25 and 26 October 2006, in Maulburg, Germany: Company Portrait of Muller Martini Druckmaschinen GmbH
Muller Martini Druckmaschinen GmbH is part of the globally active Muller Martini Group. Founded in 1964, the company is located in the southern German town of Maulburg near the Swiss border and has 210 employees. It manufactures primarily size-variable web offset presses. The product range includes the Concepta, Alprinta and Alprinta-V series. All these series are available in a width of 520 mm and the Alprinta series can also be supplied in a width of 740 mm.

The company produces all essential quality-related components in a manufacturing pool under its own management. For this purpose, it installed two large-scale machining centers featuring the most modern technology in Maulburg four years ago. There the company produces cubic parts (e.g. side frames for printing presses) for its own requirements and for the entire Muller Martini Group.

All printing presses can be configured as roll-to-roll, roll-to-fold or roll-to-sheet machines. The modular system from Muller Martini has a variety of configuration stages. At the highest level of configuration, all delivery systems are present und can be combined as desired.

The typical models of the printing presses have four to eight offset towers, but 10-color machines are not at all uncommon anymore. Lower paper costs, higher production speeds and increasingly adequate printing quality make web presses ever more desirable for many businesses as an ideal complement to sheet-fed presses.

Web offset presses are gaining ground especially in label printing, where there is a trend towards roll goods due to the further processing involved.

These machines can produce shrink-sleeves, self-adhesive labels and wrap-around labels made of paper or plastic film. They also process package inserts for medicines with perfect results. Web presses from Muller Martini are equally compelling in their capabilities for security printing. Most machines leaving the factory today are fitted with flexo printing inserts or flexo printing towers in addition to offset towers. Opaque white, metallic inks, scratch-off ink and glossy or matte lacquer are the materials usually applied in the flexo process.

Inline processing has long been a mainstay of Muller Martini Druckmaschinen GmbH. All machines can be fitted with the widest variety of inline finishing work stations for everything from hole punching, die-cutting, perforating, laminating, sheeting, folding or stacking. The possibilities extend all the way to the nonstop disposal of matrix waste in the production of self-adhesive labels.

Training Center for Printing
The Printing Training Center in Maulburg is unique. It conducts a wide variety of test series for customers to test new products, new processes and the widest variety of materials without production pressure. Thanks to this close partnership with customers, the company identifies strongly with their needs and is intent on taking these needs into account in future advances. This center performs the increasingly important task of showing the customer a solution that meets its requirements. In addition, it trains operators of Muller Martini printing presses.
