Muller Martini and HP Show How Digital Printing and Print Finishing Can Be Merged Seamlessly
During a joint appearance at HP’s booth at this year’s drupa, the leading manufacturer of digital printing presses and Muller Martini present an inline solution for finishing digitally printed books, to the amazement of many visitors to the trade fair.

“Since the very first days of the drupa, visitors to our booth have been very interested in the joint solution from HP and Muller Martini,” said Aurelio Maruggi, Vice President and General Manager, Inkjet High-speed Production Solutions, HP. “As the market continues moving away from conventional printing methods to digital printing, our customers realize that we offer them completely new opportunities – in particular in terms of print quality, production speeds and flexibility. This translates to new business segments in the area of inkjet printing.”

Aurelio Maruggi (Vice President & General Manager for Inkjet High-speed Production Solutions at HP): “HP and Muller Martini offer their customers completely new opportunities – in particular in terms of print quality, production speeds and flexibility – and therefore new business segments in the area of inkjet printing.”

Benefits of Inline Systems
For Maruggi, it is important to demonstrate the greatest advantages of inline systems to drupa visitors. “For example, they will see we offer a joint solution that seamlessly merges digital printing and print finishing,” says Maruggi. “We chose Muller Martini as a solution partner because the company understands digital printing extremely well.”

According to Bruno Müller, CEO of Muller Martini, part of such expertise is Connex, the worldwide leading data and process management system in digital book production from Muller Martini, which optimizes and automates finishing of printed materials from offset and digital printing presses. “With the increasing importance of digital printing, an intelligent workflow has become unavoidable,” emphasizes Bruno Müller. “That's because it's only possible to produce products directly and cost-effectively in one operation if the entire process is totally automated and integrated. This is precisely where Muller Martini serves as your reliable partner to ensure the security of your investments: whether offset or digital, every business determines the corresponding degree of automation and networking that is required.” According to Bruno Müller, “Connex fulfils all customer requirements in this respect – in particular for the efficient production of short runs.”

Color as Well as Black & White Books
At HP’s booth, color as well as black & white books are being produced in live demonstrations on the HP T410 Inkjet Web Press and the fully integrated SigmaLine complete solution from Muller Martini designed for the production of digitally printed books and featuring the SigmaFolder and SigmaCollator (for 42 inch webs). The black & white products are printed on the HP T410 at a speed of 244 meters per minute, while color books are produced at 183 meters per minute. In addition, four pallets of books for an Italian publishing house are being printed every other day at HP’s booth. The books are then bound on the new Alegro perfect binder at Muller Martini’s booth shortly before the end of each day.
