Bodan AG had previously relied on a 1509 saddle stitcher from Muller Martini for over two decades. The prospect of rather costly reconditioning prompted the company, which was founded in 1911 and is located by Lake Constance, to make a new investment. According to Ruckstuhl, owner and managing director of Bodan AG, the company opted for the Presto II, the most compact saddle stitcher in its performance class with a cover folder feeder (including a tWinScore scoring wheel for outstanding scoring quality) and three twin feeders, for three main reasons. “First, we’ve had good experiences with Muller Martini over the years. Second, as a Swiss company, we strive to support Swiss machine manufacturers. Third, we expect the Presto II to speed up setup times significantly.”
The new Presto II at Bodan AG is the most compact saddle stitcher in its performance class.
Shorter setup times are particularly important for Bodan AG since its numerous magazines, journals and brochures often have short print runs and have a wide range of formats. “That’s why we have a large number of job changeovers,” explains Ruckstuhl.
Originally, Ruckstuhl had intended to purchase a Presto E90. However, during his visit to Muller Martini's stand at drupa last year he was impressed by the numerous advantages of the Presto II, such as copy control, its sequential start/stop function and the increase in the maximum width of the preprocessed format in the twin feeder to 315 mm, and decided to increase the company’s investment budget accordingly.
Convenient Setup Wizard
Thanks to the setup wizard, which is well known from the Primera saddle stitcher, the Presto II has become even more user-friendly. The setup wizard enables simple and practical navigation. Operation of the machine is clearly structured and quickly leads to excellent production results – even when processing the minimum size of 118 x 60 mm as a one-off job or 93 x 60 mm with optional two-up production.
Machine operators can set up jobs step by step using the intuitive user interface. Using pictograms, the setup wizard has a standardized operating language – both on the centralized and convenient ten-inch touch-screen and the local control devices (HMI). Each twin feeder features such decentralized operation. Thanks to the high degree of automation and setup options while the machine is running, Bodan AG can now reach its desired production speed significantly quicker using the Presto II, thereby increasing its net output.
