As Jürgen Bender, Managing Director of Muller Martini Germany and co-host of the event together with apm CEO Denis Kämper, put it, “since the change in the graphic arts industry is taking place much faster than anticipated and nothing is set in stone, it’s all the more important to keep finding new inspiration”. The visitors to the open house event at the full-service company, which employs 173 people in Darmstadt and uses two web printing presses, one sheet-fed press, two digital printing presses and four saddle stitchers from Muller Martini, had the opportunity to do just that in three different ways.

First, Kämper showed which criteria apm applied when deciding on its latest investment in a Primera saddle stitcher with six flat pile feeders, a folder feeder, a merchandise tipper, two PrintRoll unwind modules, two stream feeders and a Robusto compensating stacker. The CEO of apm, which produces 80 million print products yearly, 57 million of which are wire-stitched, stressed the importance of a modular machine design and short setup times. “We use individual components of the three other saddle stitchers, such as PrintRoll, stream feeders and the addressing system, for the new Primera as well. And we intend to reduce production times from two-and-a-half shifts to one shift.”
Second, Adrian Mayr, Product Management Director of Muller Martini Print Finishing Systems AG in the Swiss city of Zofingen, emphasized the growing importance of digital-ready saddle stitchers, perfect binders and book lines. “Digital-ready systems from Muller Martini can be used universally for offset and digital printing,” said Mayr in his talk to the interested audience.
Third, the visitors to the open house had the opportunity to see theory put into practice and watch the Primera, which has been operating at apm since April, live in action. They also took advantage of the opportunity to have in-depth discussions with the experts from Muller Martini during the machine demo, as well as during the later get-together accompanied by culinary delights.
