The Mukusala printing group: The ProLiner arrives in the Baltic
With the purchase of the newly developed ProLiner inserting system from Muller Martini, the Latvian newspaper company Mukusala, subsidiary of the leading Baltic publishing and media group AS Diena, is turning more and more towards commercial print products. Thanks to the new investment, it has not only been possible to reduce staffing costs, but also to optimize the quality of the approximately 50 magazines and newspapers produced by the printing group.

Mukusala in Riga will be putting their first ProLiner inserting system from Muller Martini into operation in the middle of 2008.

The newspaper operation, which began production in 1993 with a handful of second-hand machines, intends to use the ProLiner inserting system to build on its leading position on the Baltic market. The pioneering role of the company became apparent when Mukusala opened the first color printers in the Baltic countries 12 years ago, enabling the company to surge ahead of the competition. Competitiveness is and has always been considered very important in the Baltic; this is currently manifested in the booming economy of these countries in the North East of Europe. Mukusala wants to continue to profit from the upturn – with the aid of the new ProLiner inserting system.

The contract for the purchase of the ProLiner was signed during the IfraExpo trade fair in 2007 in Vienna. It was the logical consequence of a thorough strategic evaluation by Mukusala, taking into account technology, customer requirements and the market situation. The company concluded that the ProLiner inserting system from Muller Martini was perfectly tailored to the requirements profile.

It is intended to finish 50 different titles - including the profitable daily newspaper “Diena” - with main sections, preprinted material and inserts. The Proliner can be loaded either directly from the press in “Press to Hopper” mode or offline manually via the Streamfeeder. The Proliner’s ability to deal with a wide variety of formats and open products safely, even those with a short lap, provides the flexibility to allow production of a range of very different products. Furthermore, thanks to its modular structure, the new inserting system can easily be adapted later on to the high speeds of a new printing press or to increased numbers of inserts. In the ProLiner, Mukusala has not only made the right choice of inserting system for today and for the future, but has also made an exceptionally safe investment. With this investment, Mukusala is underlining its progressive and dynamic attitude and has laid the foundation for its leading position in the Baltic market to continue well into the future.
