For One Hundred Percent Bookblock Pressing
The spine of a thread-sewn bookblock can build up higher or lower depending on the book’s paper, joint quality and type of sewing. The newly developed Müller Martini Roller / Full-Surface Pressing Machine (RPM/GPM) eliminates this problem from the start: the new RPM/GPM prepares bookblocks with spine build-up in the best of ways for gluing off and further processing.

The new Roller Pressing Machine with Full-Surface Pressing Station (GPM) gets the bookblock in perfect and lasting shape.

The innovative full-surface press is used together with the RPM Roller Pressing Machine. The bookblock is first run through the roller pressing machine which nips the spine area. Spine build-up is reduced and the stitch holes are closed. Then the bookblock is center-positioned between the two pressing jaws of the GPM Full-Surface Pressing Machine and its entire surface pressed by a hydraulic press with a pressing force of up to 30 tons. All air is pressed out of the bookblock to allow for a uniform block thickness. As the press with its hydraulic cylinder has a direct effect on the pressing jaws, one hundred percent pressing of the bookblock is guaranteed.

The smallest bookblocks that can be pressed with the GPM are 14 cm high, 9 cm wide and 3 mm thick. The largest two-up bookblocks can have a height of 51 cm, a width of 32 cm and a thickness of 8 cm. Compared to standard bookblock presses, the patented technique of the GPM almost doubles the pressing time without slowing down the machine and therefore guarantees a very high quality.

If the formats need to be changed, the RPM/GPM automatically adjusts together with the Collibri backgluing machine. Like all new developments by Müller Martini Buchtechnologie, the RPM/GPM is equipped with the automatic Amrys Make-ready system. The machine operator then has the possibility to precision-adjust the machine over the user-friendly operator panel.

The hydraulic press full-surface-presses the bookblocks with a pressure force of up to 30 tons.
