The Plate Cylinder of the Alprinta 52V is Exactly 11,480 Grams Light

Including the offset printing plate, the plate cylinder of an Alprinta 52V only weighs 11,480 grams.

11,480 grams – that was the right answer to the Müller Martini contest at the Labelexpo in Brussels. The challenge was to guess the weight of a plate cylinder (including offset printing plate) of the infinitely variably-sized heatset web press Alprinta 52V from Müller Martini.

Rick Weyermann of Sancoa International in Mount Laurel, NJ and Vivian Ballan of Sleev’ Innovation in Montdidier (France) each guessed 11,500 grams on their participant cards and only missed the actual weight by 20 grams. They both won an iPod Portable Media Player from Apple as did Roland Schreiner of the Schreiner Group in Obserschleissheim (Germany), who guessed 11,520 grams, and Phil A. Heyworth of American Fuji Seal Inc. in Bardstown, KY, who with 11,425 grams also came very close to the weight taken by a precision balance.
