Muller Martini has proven once again why it is the global pacesetter in print production innovation. The company’s SigmaLine technology... the world’s first commercial-quality, totally modular, OnDemand digital book manufacturing solution... has been recognized with a prestigious 2005 GATF InterTech Award.

“SigmaLine is another example of why printers and binding professionals throughout the digital and offset marketplace look to Muller Martini for innovations designed to make their operations more productive, more versatile, and more successful,” said Werner Naegeli, President and CEO of Muller Martini Corp. “Receiving recognition from GATF is truly an honor.”

“Muller Martini is committed to remaining on the forefront of technological advancements.I’m proud to say that our ideas have changed the industry,” added Mr. Naegeli. One judge even commented, “Besides closing the loop in the digital world, it’s a solution for competing with lower labor costs in any part of the world.”

Among the Muller Martini customers who are utilizing the SigmaLine OnDemand concept is Offset Paper Back Manufacturers (OPM). OPM is running a SigmaBinder and SigmaTower in a near-line configuration, gaining the capability to bind up to 1,000 fully variable size books per hour. “In addition to the speed of the runs, what we feel is the best innovation of SigmaLine technology is the incredibly fast makeready,” said William Rogers, Vice President – Engineering of OPM.“The automation features of SigmaLine have allowed us to set up a job very efficiently in literally moments, plus the quality of the binding is impeccable.” Another satisfied SigmaLine user is Commercial Communications, Inc. (CCI). CCI is utilizing SigmaBinder in-line with a continuous feed digital print engine, running variable size books from a roll-fed system directly to the binder, significantly streamlining finishing operations and enabling CCI to better fulfill the increasing number of short run requests from its customers.

An award ceremony honoring Muller Martini and others will be held November 12, 2005 in San Francisco, California. Also part of the gathering in San Francisco will be a forum (November 11-13) hosting industry leaders including boards of directors and committee members for PIA/GATF, its Society of Fellows and Ash Khan Society, and the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF).
