Jacketing and Inserting – Two ProLiners Create Attractive Advertising Environment for “Daily News”
Si-Phya Publishing Co., a company based in the Thai capital Bangkok, is using two new Muller Martini ProLiners – the first insertion devices of their kind to be put into operation in Asia – to optimize insert business for daily newspaper “Daily News”.

Paramet Hetrakul (center), Director of Production at Si-Phya, Paravadee Hongprayul (right), Director of the Advertising Department, and Panuchai Srinualnad (second from right), IT Manager at Si-Phya in Bangkok, signing the contract for the installation of two ProLiner insertion systems. On the left is Enrico Farinacci (Sales Manager at Muller Martini Mailroom Systems) and next to him Roland Bangerter (Managing Director of Muller Martini Singapore).

As Si-Phya often jackets its broadsheet “Daily News” using a heatset commercial product, the two ProLiners, each equipped with four feeders, support three different types of production.

  • One option is to open the two-page or four-page carrier medium, which is fed in via the first feeder, and the newspaper is directly inserted into it from the printing press via the second feeder. An intermediate opening is then used to re-open the carrier medium and the newspaper, after which two (editorial or commercial) inserts are added in the third and fourth feeders.
  • Another approach is for both inserts to be placed in the carrier medium alongside the newspaper, with no second opening.
  • A conventional newspaper insertion process is also a possibility; this involves placing the two inserts in the newspaper without a carrier medium.

All this means that Si-Phya has three flexible options for making the advertising environment in the “Daily News”, which can feature up to 40 pages, even more appealing, and for generating additional advertising revenues. Asia's first two ProLiners were commissioned at the end of May. The two machines were assembled and subjected to rigorous testing at the Muller Martini plant in Switzerland prior to delivery, ensuring that the commissioning process in Bangkok went without a hitch.
