“We Are Convinced Perfect Binding Has Great Potential”
This summer, the HPM Group in the Northern English town of Newton Aycliffe will replace a second-hand Panda machine with a modern Pantera perfect binder from Muller Martini. The traditional company produces many short runs and is therefore dependent on short changeovers.

When the HPM Group began softcover production two years ago, it started with a second-hand Panda perfect binder from Muller Martini. “However, since then we have observed strong growth in perfect binding, which requires us to have a high-performance machine,” says Managing Director Richard Mortimer. “Our customers also expect a high level of quality.”

That is why the HPM Group decided on a new Pantera with a 12-station gathering machine and a Merit S three-knife trimmer from Muller Martini to replace its Panda machine. “We are convinced that perfect binding has great potential,” emphasizes Director Richard Lister. The purchase agreement for the perfect binder, which is set to be put into operation in just a few weeks, was signed at the drupa.

The Pantera perfect binder is just the right solution for the HPM Group. The over 100-year-old family company, which has also had a Presto saddle stitcher from Muller Martini in operation for five years now, often produces magazines, (football) programs and brochures with print runs of just 500 copies (up to a maximum of 50,000). “With all these short runs, we naturally need to be able to change jobs quickly,” emphasizes Mortimer.
