“Our two-day workshop was organized with two specific goals in mind,” said John Jansen, Managing Director of Muller Martini Nordic. “Firstly, we were keen to consolidate our relationships with existing and potential customers in Northern Europe. In addition, we wanted to provide customers who already use our systems with a platform to discuss everyday operations in a relaxed environment.”
The workshop hosted by Muller Martini Nordic in Denmark provided the ideal platform for the various mailroom experts to discuss daily operations in a relaxed environment.
The 25 mailroom professionals, hailing from 14 different newspaper producers based in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, took up the invitation to find out about the latest market trends for themselves. Volker Leonhardt, Marketing Manager at Muller Martini Mailroom Systems AG, provided the guests with information about highly automated, increased-flexibility (inserting) systems as well as unveiling new opportunities for newspaper producers. The key topics on the agenda in relation to improving printing press and mailroom utilization were the manufacture of semi-commercial printed products and new advertising methods such as inserting cards and sticky notes.
André Chanez, Sales Manager at Muller Martini, revealed how the Muller Martini NewsTrim/NewsStitch cutting and stitching system or a saddle stitcher can be used to produce magazines printed on newsprint. Subsequent discussion made it clear that the conference participants had been particularly impressed by the options for newspaper production/saddle stitching in conjunction with high-quality covers, card gluing and inserts of various kinds.
The participants were able to see how theory and practice interact as they took the opportunity to see a ProLiner in action during visits to Danish newspaper publisher Erritsø Tryk A/S and newspaper printer Fynske Medier, among others, which uses the most up-to-date NewsStitch/NewsTrim cutting and stitching systems in its production. The Managing Directors of each company, Gert Nielsen (Erritsø Tryk A/S) and Jerk Hammelsvang (Fynske Medier), were among the speakers at the workshop. Guest speaker Richard Wraa also works for Fynske Medier, in the new media division. His task was to illustrate the ‘digital future’ that lies ahead to newspaper manufacturers – what a spoilsport!
