St. Joseph Extends Partnership with GMA
Allentown, Pennsylvania, October 2006 - GMA recently signed an agreement with The St. Joseph (MO) News-Press, a subsidiary of the News-Press & Gazette Group, for the purchase of an 8:2 SLS2000 High-speed Inserter.

The newspaper just completed a software upgrade on its existing SLS2000 12:2 inserter.  This initial machine was installed in 1999 and is still productive for the News-Press’ daily and weekend production. In addition, the News-Press uses GMA’s PrintRoll Buffering and Storage System.

The additional inserter was added to increase capacity at the News-Press & Gazette Group’s regional printing facility in St. Joseph.  Over the past 18 months, they have acquired a number of publications in the Kansas City market.  Several of these publications have transitioned to the St. Joseph print facility with plans to move the remaining publications during the next three months.  This second machine will allow the operation to increase productivity for all of the publications and allow for scheduling flexibility.

John McCarthy, Director of Operations for the News-Press, said, ” The GMA model we picked will allow us minimal training expense since our operators already know the machine.  We will be able to utilize the same spare parts inventory for both machines and our maintenance people will be able to efficiently make any repairs or preventive maintenance.”

He added, “There is no question that we have been happy with the first purchase of our GMA inserter that was installed in 1999.  That’s why we returned to them to purchase our second machine.  We’ve always found GMA to be supportive and the equipment is proven in the marketplace and in our facility.”

As of a September 2004 audit, the News-Press’ circulation totaled 36,578 Monday-Saturday and 38,623 on Sundays.  This facility also produces a number of commercial print publications, and the News-Press & Gazette Group owns several weekly publications in the Kansas City area.
