Muller Martini introduces new inline laminating station and matrix waste removal station for Alprinta-V

Engineered to enhance label production in format-variable web offset printing

Hauppauge, New York –  The infinitely format-versatile Muller Martini Alprinta-V continuously size-variable web offset press has already gained a strong reputation as a cost-effective alternative for producing wrap-around labels and shrink sleeves. And now, with its newly developed inline laminating station and new matrix waste removal station for self-adhesive labels, the Alprinta-V will be even more versatile for label and packaging printers.
The new laminating station for the Alprinta-V offset press is located on the press’s new flexo unit.  During production, a UV-curable laminating glue is applied via the flexo unit to the substrate. Subsequently in the laminating station, a film is dispensed onto the web that runs through a UV lamp, where the glue is cured with UV radiation.

Providing a broad spectrum of production possibilities
Muller Martini’s new Alprinta-V laminating station is ideal for a wide range of applications, including.

• Unwind unit for rolls with diameter of up to 31-1/2” (800mm), for nearly double as many continuous feet per roll when compared to a 24” (600mm) roll.
• Machine speed of up to 1,200 fpm (365m/min), depending on substrate.
• Film width up to 29-1/8“ (740mm) with Alprinta 74 and 20-1/2” (520mm) with the Alprinta 52.
• Adjustable web tension for optimum flatness of the finished products.

New matrix waste removal station for self-adhesive labels
To maintain the Alprinta-V’s productivity at maximum speeds of 1,200 fpm (365 m/min) when producing self-adhesive labels, Muller Martini has developed a new matrix waste removal station for the Alprinta-V. The new system utilizes a draw roller and doctor blade.

The new waste removal station was put through its paces at the Muller Martini open house in Maulburg where it ran at over 920 fpm (280 m/min). The labels are die-cut in a rotary process with die-cutting plates, which are fixed to a magnetic cylinder. Punching depth is set on the Alprinta-V in an extremely precise manner with the help of conical-shaped bearers which allow simple readjustment...even while running production. Alprinta-V presses that are now in the field producing with label cutting and matrix waste removal stations inline have proven that these innovations enable unique productivity in the manufacturing of self-adhesive labels.

Advantages of the new waste removal station:
• Very high production speeds are achieved.
• Non-stop matrix waste removal.
• Adjustable matrix removal via tension roller system.
• High operational safety with simple handling.
