Uncoupling Printing and Shipping with Buffer and Storage Systems

Thanks to the buffering and storage options by the FlexiRoll system, it is now easy to preprint sections during the day, wind them onto rolls, automatically store them and then take them out of storage again "just in time" for the night's insertion run. This dynamic buffering system allows the press and mailroom to run independently, at top speeds, with maximum efficiency and economy.

Compared to a rigid connection, more and more newspaper manufacturers are preferring the dynamic connection between printing press and a highly advanced inserting systems implemented by Muller Martini. As the logical technological successor to the PrintRoll, the FlexiRoll system has proved to be the right answer for many newspaper-printing plants in two respects:

  • Firstly, preprinted sections no longer have to be stacked and fed by hand, but are wound onto FlexiRoll stands without any manual intervention, put into storage and then docked onto the inserting system for automatic loading at the required time.
  • Secondly, the FlexiRoll buffer system is used in the time-critical main production phase to enable the full utilization of the output of the presses without any limitations. In this way, the mailroom process can respond dynamically to the requirements of the loading dock.

Thanks to the FlexiRoll high-rack storage system, newspaper producers can temporarily and economically store a wide range of preprinted sections and commercial supplements in relatively little space.
