Muller Martini introduces VPN book spine nozzle, enabling precise and uniform PUR glue application

Innovative Volumetric PUR Nozzle enhances product quality,
saves money and time in processing perfect bound books

Hauppauge, New York – The use of PUR adhesive (polyurethane reactive) is becoming an increasingly popular method of perfect binding due to high pull-resistance values, exceptional lay-flat characteristics and temperature resistance.  Yet, until now, PUR processing was for the most part limited to mid-range production speeds because of the chemical properties inherent to polyurethane reactive adhesives.

Muller Martini, the world leader in print finishing technology, has introduced a new VPN book spine nozzle that will equip print production operations to take full advantage of PUR’s benefits...even when running jobs at high speeds.

With Muller Martini’s new VPN nozzle, the glue film can be applied very precisely with constant, minimal thickness and with exact glue break edges.  This results in books with sharp-edged, chiseled spines and a higher quality appearance.  Furthermore, due to the fact that the VPN nozzle is a closed system, there is no integration of the glue with moisture and humidity (which can cause some of the glue to react before being applied to the book spine).  This means that perfect binding jobs can be created with more consistent quality, book to book, throughout the run.  And, cleaning and maintenance costs as well as labor requirements are substantially reduced because there’s no need for expensive and time consuming re-coating of the glue pot.

The new VPN book spine nozzle is ideally suited for use with several different perfect binding machines, including Muller Martini’s Bolero, Corona, Acoro A5, and Acoro A7.
