Muller Martini Alprinta-V web offset technology attracts heavy traffic at Labelexpo Americas

Visitors to the Muller booth see how the company’s infinitely size-variable innovation can increase packaging profits
One of the more important keys to profitability in the manufacture of labels and flexible packaging products is the ability to change sizes quickly and efficiently. Attendees to Labelexpo Americas 2008, a number of which visited the Muller Martini exhibit, saw this for themselves.  During the show, Muller presented a static printing unit and a flexo unit from its Alprinta-V continuously size-variable web press, a press that is specifically designed to meet the changing demands of the packaging industry.

Based on the feedback we received from visitors, there was considerable interest in the Alprinta-V and its versatile capabilities among package producers who view our innovative press technology as a way to increase their profits on a wide range of packaging jobs,” said Andy Fetherman, Manager – Press Division.

Alprinta-V series presses utilize a continuously size-variable insert system.  The insert remains in the press during a size change, since only the actual size parts – the plate cylinder and the blanket cylinder – are exchanged.  The change is completed without tools and breaking the web is not necessary.  The size parts are light and easy to handle, yet extremely stable.  In a matter of minutes, the press can be changed over to a new size.  During Labelexpo Americas 2008, Muller Martini performed a live demonstration of a size part change to convey to show visitors how quickly the Alprinta-V can be converted to a new repeat length.

“Due to its advanced insert technology, the Alprinta-V provides size variability that is comparable with flexo and gravure printing,” continued Mr. Fetherman. “This, and its exceptional printing quality, makes the Alprinta-V press ideal for many different kinds of label and packaging applications.”  Among the varied applications are shrink sleeve films, PVC, OPP, POPP, self-adhesives, paper labels and in-mold labels. Muller Martini displayed printed samples of many of these applications at Labelexpo.

Plus, the Alprinta-V offers the added flexibility of hybrid printing, providing offset as well as flexo and gravure capabilities.  Of the two static printing units that Muller Martini showed at its Labelexpo booth, one was offset and the other was flexo. The offset version is highlighted by its quick-change cylinder, and the flexo version features a quick-change sleeve.

The 1,200 ft./min. Alprinta-V also includes Muller Martini’s renowned job set-up technology, which enables very fast make-readies.  This can result in significant savings in labor costs, while also freeing up plant personnel for other tasks.

Labelexpo Americas was held September 9, 10 and 11, 2008 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois.  Labelexpo is the largest event for the label, product decoration, web printing and converting industry in the Americas.
