Adding equipment, multiplying opportunities

Pioneer Printing & Stationery increases sales and profit potential with addition of Muller Martini BravoPlus T saddle stitcher

Utilizing technologically-advanced print finishing equipment can benefit an operation in many ways, in particular, by providing the opportunity to offer customers a wider range of services while also increasing profitability through higher efficiencies.  Pioneer Printing & Stationery Co. of Cheyenne, Wyoming has brought those benefits and several others to its business with the installation of a BravoPlus T saddle stitcher from Muller Martini.

“We chose the Bravo Plus T because of the speed, automation, and page size,” says Monte Kelly, Vice President for Pioneer Printing & Stationery.  “With the BravoPlus T we have made improvements to make-ready speed and productivity and we’ve also been able to broaden our service offering.”

Employing 36 people and serving customers throughout several states, Pioneer Printing & Stationery is a commercial sheetfed printer producing an extensive variety of products including mail inserts, product brochures, saddle stitched books and publications, newsletters, pocket folders and envelopes.  Pioneer prides itself on its ability to deliver quality printing at a reasonable price, two factors that have helped the company build a loyal customer following.  The BravoPlus T stitcher at Pioneer Printing is configured with six pockets, a cover feeder and Apollo stacker.

In addition to the advanced engineering and versatility of the BravoPlus T saddle stitcher, Pioneer Printing & Stationery also decided to purchase from Muller Martini based on industry reputation.  “Muller is a well respected company with quality machines and service,” continues Mr. Kelly.  “And, the personnel that represents Muller Martini is excellent to work with. They were very thorough in giving us the exact date and time that the equipment was going to arrive and what needed to be done prior to its arrival to prepare for the installation. Training was very extensive and friendly. When we had questions after the installation, calls were returned promptly with follow-up calls to make sure we were up and running.”

The Muller Martini BravoPlus T saddle stitcher is capable of producing product at up to 11,000 c/hr.  It features PLC assisted controls and comfortable touchscreen operation with simple adjustment of clinchers.  BravoPlus T also comes equipped with a three-knife trimmer and due to its modular design, it can be expanded at any time to feed up to 14 signatures or 12 signatures with a cover folder feeder – meeting the requirements of growing printing and binding businesses.

Other key advantages include: touchless stitcher control from below; gripper and suction opening; individual 1:2/1:1 gearing; heavy-duty in-line single book trimmer; frequency controlled drive; and an easy-maintenance central lubrication system on the stitching machine and three-knife trimmer. Production quality on the BravoPlus T saddle stitcher is closely controlled through selectable options that include: ASIR (optical automatic signature image recognition), lateral thickness measurement by side caliper, oblique sheet monitor, thickness measurement by ridge caliper, stitch monitor, trim monitor, and sequential on/off.
