The Daily Sentinel upgrades to Muller Martini’s robust WinLincs XP Packaging Line Control System with comprehensive zoning capability.

The Daily Sentinel has been a trusted resource in Western Colorado since 1893 and represents the largest newspaper between Denver and Salt Lake City.  Over 175 employees produce one daily newspaper, a weekly shopper and numerous weekly newspapers, with pre-printed inserts representing a significant part of advertising revenues.

That’s one of the reasons they recently upgraded their SLS-1000 inserter with the WinLincs XP Packaging Line Control System.  WinLincs XP allows The Daily Sentinel’s mailroom to handle highly sophisticated production plans in order to ensure the reliable delivery of a variety of marketing inserts.  The WinLincs XP upgrade provides the most advanced and sophisticated inserter control, communication and data management tool to each of its users – be it the operator, the maintenance technician or the data analyst.  Its intuitive, innovative design structure makes it easy to manage and organize the distribution accuracy of a single packaging line.

With the WinLincs XP architecture, users are presented with superior control, significantly reduced downtime and enhanced production accuracy.  And, since it features the current Microsoft Operating platform, it’s more resilient and resistant to external attacks.

In addition to its stability and superior reporting capabilities, WinLincs XP optimizes mailroom productivity by providing better, simpler and more accurate command of the packaging line.  It also features the Microsoft SQL database so downtime is lessened since there’s less chance of database corruption.

Bud Winslow, Operations Director, said “the WinLincs XP upgrade provides the potential for greater reporting functionality for our advertising department.  And, considering that inserting revenues continue to be a growing part of our business, these reports are invaluable.”

In addition to WinLincs XP, The Daily Sentinel also rebuilt various parts of its SLS1000 inserter – including the collator and conveyor chains.  “We decided to upgrade the SLS1000 because it’s been a very reliable workhorse in our mailroom.  Now, both the SLS1000’s speed and durability have been enhanced.  Although the newspaper could have considered other, newer inserter models, they chose to stay with the Muller Martini SLS1000.  Explained Mr. Winslow, “The decision to upgrade our SLS1000 was fairly straightforward.  It’s Muller Martini technology.  And with Muller, it’s all about reputation and value.  And the fact that I can now sleep easier at night knowing that our inserting equipment has been upgraded to last many more years.”

The WinLincs XP Packaging Line Control System Upgrade is available as a retrofit for the following Muller Martini inserters: SLS1000 and SLS2000 series high-speed inserters.  Many other inserting machines will also benefit from the WinLincs XP platform such as the 13/72, 14/72, 22/99, 630, 632 and other comparable inserting equipment.

To date, Muller has installed the WinLincs XP upgrade in more than 50 inserting machines at 28 customer sites, with more being scheduled each week.
