Schumann Printers continues to meet customer demands with Muller Martini’s high-speed saddle stitcher

Company installs Tempo 22 to add capacity and speed make readies

Wisconsin-based Schumann Printers, Inc., a national printer of 300 special interest magazines and catalogs, recently installed Muller Martini’s Tempo 22 stitcher, a replacement for Muller’s 301.  Why the upgrade?  To achieve increased capacity and speed in cycle times and make readies.

Technical innovation and customer responsiveness are what differentiates this 180-employee company in the intensely competitive publication printing market. Schumann prides itself on meeting its customer needs by producing titles in very short turnaround times, at high quality, and at an economical price. Since installing the Tempo 22, “the overall make ready times have been reduced, at the same time producing many more books per hour,” noted Dan Schumann, President. Schumann Printers also added an inline merchandise tipper to the Tempo which enables the company to tip while stitching at very high speeds.

The Tempo 22 Saddle Stitcher is a field-proven production system for efficient multishift operations.  Its rated top speed of 22,000 cycles per hour delivers incomparable productivity and efficiency to binding operations. Other advantages are the machine’s versatile capabilities for in-line inkjetting and its ability to handle tip-on production. The Tempo’s proven technology has been further optimized to guarantee high net outputs for large runs of magazines, leaflets and catalogs.  A sophisticated control system featuring operating data collection, a job management system, and JDF integration ensures efficient production.

Complementing its amazing running speed, the Tempo 22 also features fast, repeatable and user-friendly makeready settings that let operators set up and change jobs almost instantly utilizing intuitive touchscreen controls—saving labor costs while allowing more jobs to be completed with shorter turnarounds.

And Schumann Printers’ satisfaction extended well beyond the Tempo 22’s actual performance, as the attention to detail and quality of Muller Martini’s installation and training services did not go unnoticed. Commented Mr. Schumann, “Muller was very responsive during the installation and training, making certain that all of our needs were fulfilled before departing.”
