C&R Bindery – an inspiring story of hard work, growth and commitment to customer needs

Perfect binding shop in Texas becomes a pacesetter in its marketplace, led by a Vietnam immigrant who came to America with nothing but a desire to succeed

Dallas, Texas – Hung Chan, President of C&R Bindery, immigrated to the United States in 1980, coming to this country with no money in his pocket and a dream in his heart.  Today, Mr. Chan is President of C&R Bindery and he and Tony Romaniello, Vice President, operate one of the fastest growing businesses of its kind in all of Texas.

“I came to the U.S. from Vietnam with nothing, I was so poor that the case worker who eventually helped me find a job felt sorry for me and gave me a dollar,” says Mr. Chan. That job involved sweeping floors at the old Ellis Bindery.

While at Ellis Bindery, Mr. Chan learned the binding trade during a period of nearly two decades, gaining the knowledge, experience and commitment to quality that C&R customers now depend on him for.  In just a few short years, C&R Bindery expanded from a small “niche” operation handling mechanical jobs, to a comprehensive trade bindery offering a broad range of services.  Just recently, C&R installed a Muller Martini perfect binding system, consisting of an Acoro A5 Binder, Gathering Machine Model 1573, and Merit S three-knife trimmer.  With the installation of its perfect binding technology this past spring, C&R now possesses binding capabilities that are state-of-the-art...enabling C&R to meet the most demanding needs of its increasing roster of customers.

Indeed, it’s an inspiring story of perseverance and hard work.  “Our business began in 1997 in a 10,000 square-foot building, we had two customers and our first year sales were $300,000,” says Mr. Romaniello.  “Now we have 18,000 square feet, 72 customers and last year our sales were $1.2 million with 15 employees.”  Starting from humble beginnings, Mr. Chan has demonstrated what’s possible in the United States. And the impressive growth and continued success of C&R Bindery underscores the many opportunities that are available in the printing marketplace for companies that are dedicated to satisfying customers through responsive service and the right technology.
