MAR Graphics reduces make-ready time and waste by 50%, enhances quality with Muller Martini Concepta web press

Valmeyer, Illinois – For more than 40 years, the industry has looked to Muller Martini for leading-edge advancements in web press technology.  The Concepta variable size web offset press is an example of that leadership, incorporating state-of-the-art controls along with outstanding production versatility.

Recently, a 10-color Concepta was installed at MAR Graphics, a growing printer that handles a diverse array of jobs including direct mail pieces, forms, variable imaging and mailing services.

“We chose the Concepta because of Muller Martini’s reputation as having one of the most innovative high color presses, of the highest quality, in the marketplace,” says Rick Roever, President of MAR Graphics.  The Concepta at MAR, with CIP3 capability, has been configured with a turret rewinder for jumbo rolls, a high speed sheeter and prime U.V. 22” and 28” inserts.

After installing the Concepta web press, MAR Graphics is poised to gain significant enhancements to its operational productivity, increasing profits. “Our make-ready time on the new Concepta press will be half or less than it is now on our other U.V. presses,” continues Mr. Roever.  “With CIP3, printing to color can be accomplished much faster as all press color settings are automatically set with their computerized servo motor driven ink fountain.”

Another factor in determining why MAR Graphics decided upon the Concepta press is its technologically superior ink train that ensures uniform ink coverage over the entire speed range. “Our direct mail customers are asking for more coverage, higher quality, more colors, and longer runs.  We feel confident that with the addition of the Concepta, we can grow our direct mail business exponentially and hopefully we will be looking at another press down the road,” says Rick Roever.

In addition to quality printing results, among Concepta’s other features is a versatile modular design, offering the capabilities of up to 12 offset printing units and the integration of flexo and digital printing, as well as various in-line finishing options such as die cutting and perforating.   What’s more, the Concepta comes standard with Muller Martini’s patent-pending, fully integrated and fully JDF/JMF compliant MRS automatic make-ready system. Concepta can preset such essentials as register and ink fountain profiles without prompting – letting operators complete other tasks while the machine’s unique and brand-new “artificial intelligence” takes care of the basics and handles set-ups for both new and repeat jobs automatically.  The Concepta web press runs at up to 1,200 feet per minute, has a 20-1/2” web width, and can handle repeat lengths ranging from 14” to 28-1/3”.
